Tesla Model Y 18-Inch Wheels: Exactly Which Trims They Fit

Eighteen-inch winter wheels are the best winter setup for the Model Y — taller sidewall, better pothole protection, cheaper tires, less rotating mass. If you read our guide to 18-inch Model Y winter packages, you know why we'd pick them nearly every time.

But here's the question we get asked constantly: will 18s fit my Model Y? The honest answer is that it depends on your exact year and trim — and it's not a guess. We pulled the fitment data straight from Fastco's FastFinder dealer system, the same database the wheel manufacturers themselves maintain. Here's what it says, trim by trim.

The short answer

Only one Model Y variant is approved for 18-inch wheels: the 2026 Model Y Standard (RWD). Every other trim — including all 2020–2025 Model Ys — is 19-inch minimum according to the manufacturer's own fitment data.

2026 Model Y (Juniper refresh)

FastFinder lists three trims for 2026:

  • Standard (RWD) — 18-inch: YES. The diameter filter offers 18, 19, 20 and 21 inches, with 89 different 18-inch wheel options. This is the only Model Y trim with 18-inch availability. Available 18s include the Fast Wheels EV01, EV01+, EV06, Boost, FC04, FC08, FC09, Bandit, Summit, Switch and Thunder, the Fast HD Fury, Replika R241B, and a traditional steel wheel — most in 18x8 with a +45 offset.
  • Premium (AWD) — 18-inch: NO. Only 19, 20 and 21 inches offered. FastFinder's fitment note reads: "Tesla does not permit 18" wheels on Premium and Performance models, may void warranty."
  • Performance (red calipers) (AWD) — 18-inch: NO. Same as Premium: 19-inch minimum, same warranty note.

2020–2025 Model Y

Every model year from 2020 through 2025 lists two trims in FastFinder: Long Range and Performance (red calipers). Neither one offers 18-inch wheels — the diameter filter starts at 19 inches for both. The fitment note on every one of these pages reads: "18" wheels no longer permitted as it is not approved by Tesla and may void warranty."

So if you drive a 2020–2025 Model Y of any trim, 19 inches is the smallest wheel the manufacturer supports.

Why the restriction exists

Two reasons, both legitimate. First, brake clearance: the Performance models run larger red brake calipers that physically don't clear most 18-inch wheel barrels. Second, manufacturer approval: Tesla doesn't approve 18-inch fitment on those trims, and running a non-approved size can affect warranty coverage. This isn't a shop policy — it's the wheel manufacturer's own fitment database telling us no.

One install detail worth knowing: FastFinder also notes that the disc retaining screws need to come off when mounting wheels without a cavity back. It's a five-minute job during installation, and it's part of why you want someone who knows Teslas doing the work.

What this means for your winter package

  • 2026 Model Y Standard (RWD): you're the lucky one. A full 18-inch winter package — hubcentric rims, EV-rated winter tires, pre-programmed Bluetooth TPMS sensors — is available, and it's the best-value winter setup for this car. See our 18-inch Model Y packages for current options.
  • 2026 Premium or Performance, or any 2020–2025 Model Y: your winter package starts at 19 inches. Still hubcentric, still EV-rated tires, still Bluetooth TPMS — just one inch up. The 19-inch packages are excellent winter setups in their own right.

Either way, every package we build is verified against your exact year and trim before anything is ordered, and complete packages include free mobile installation for the first fall–winter season — mounted, balanced, and installed in your driveway.

Frequently asked questions

Can a 2026 Tesla Model Y Standard (RWD) run 18-inch wheels?

Yes. According to Fastco's FastFinder fitment data, the 2026 Model Y Standard (RWD) is the only Model Y trim approved for 18-inch wheels, with 89 compatible 18-inch options including the Fast Wheels EV01, EV06, Boost and FC04 families and the Replika R241B.

Why can't the Model Y Performance run 18-inch wheels?

The Performance models use larger red brake calipers that don't clear most 18-inch wheel barrels, and Tesla does not approve 18-inch fitment on Performance or Premium trims. FastFinder's fitment note states that 18-inch wheels on these trims are not permitted and may void warranty.

Can a 2020–2025 Model Y Long Range use 18-inch winter wheels?

No. FastFinder offers no 18-inch wheels for any 2020–2025 Model Y trim — Long Range or Performance. The diameter filter starts at 19 inches, and the fitment note states that 18-inch wheels are not approved by Tesla and may void warranty.

What's the smallest wheel I can put on a Model Y Performance?

19 inches. That's the minimum diameter FastFinder offers for every Performance trim across all model years, 2020 through 2026.

Does putting 18-inch wheels on a non-approved trim void the warranty?

Fastco's fitment notes state that 18-inch wheels on Premium and Performance trims (and on all 2020–2025 trims) are not approved by Tesla and may void warranty. We follow the manufacturer's fitment data exactly — if FastFinder says no, we don't build it.
